Abstract
This study was made as an attempt to assess the present state of antibiotic resistance of Staphylococcus aureus and elimination of drug resistance from these bacteria by a variety of classes of chemical compounds.
About 80%. of the isolates were resistant to tetracycline and streptomcin and were highly susceptible to penicillin series, and 90% of drug resistant strains were multiply resistant.
Although generally the curing compounds employed in this experiment were less effective in their eliminatilig Ictivity, several compounds such as ethidium bromide, sodium dodecyl sulfate and rifampin eliminated some resistance of bacteria to streptomycin and ampicillin at high frequency.
These results indicate that the antibiotic resistance of Staphylococcus aureus are mediated by R plasmids.
